2020 Annual Year of the Metal Rat

Chinese Lunar New Year Gala

Saturday, February 8th., 2020

On Saturday, February 8th., 2020 about three hundred undeterred Canadians who were originally from Malaysia, landed immigrants from Malaysia and Canadian from all over Asia and Canadaian gathered at the annual Malaysian Association of Canada Lunar Chinese New Year Gala to celebrate the last day of the Chinese New Year Festival (Chap Goar May - translation fifteen night of the Chinese New Year).  This year Chinese New Year happened in the midst of the NOVID-19 coronavirus outbreak in China that had over a thousand deads and over fifteenth thousand stricken with this disease. However, the disease had also spread to twenty-four countries with more than a hundred confirmed cases and two dead outside China. Sad cases are Chinese businesses are stigma with the disease due to wild gossip in social media that caused many cancellations on the usually busy season for Chinese Restauranters and Chinese New Year Functions.  Once again it was a very successful function and all who attended enjoyed themselves.

Annually the Malaysian Association of Canada was grateful that the High Commissioner of Malaysia was happy to attend the function and this year was no different. The Lunar Near Gala is the first of every year function however please check with the Malaysian Association web site for more future functions. Malaysian Association of Canada is a full partner with the Canadian Multicultural Council.

According to Malaysian Association of Canada's Chairman Mr. Henry Lee, thank to our "BOMOK"

There were a great varieties of Malysian food and desserts served even for our Muslim friends HALAL food was also available. Every year we seem to improved our picnic, and if you missed this year picnic do not fret because next year we will tried our best to make it even better.  For the first time we had set a precedent of providing a roast pig, we may have to keep up the high standard in the future. Thank to all our members and friends it was gratifying to see many new faces in this year picnic especially when many of them are young immigrants. Due to this year picnic sixteen new members signed up to Malaysian Association of Canada.

Many thanks of the a great number of volunteers who did a fantastic job in helping organizing and serving the foods that were brought in the picnic went smoothly. Also a great thank you to those who help in the overall setting up and cleaning up of the place after the picnic.

29th., Annual Malaysian Association of Canada Golf Tournament at Royal Stouffville Golf Club, Ontario

Sunday July 22nd., 2018 at Royal Stouffville Golf Club, Stoffville, Ontario Canada.

Malaysian Association of Canadian annual golf tournament was held in Stouffville, Ontario, Canada instead of their usually site at Angus Glen, in Markham, Ontario. Although, the weather was rainy during the first half of the tournament but it was later turn into a great golfing day for all the competitors.

In the past events, after the game the awards presentation was usually held at a nearby Chinese Restaurant but this year the closing awards ceremony was also held at Royal Stouffville Golf Club with a generous portion of all you can eat salad bar with an 8 ounces steaks cook to your liking and a generous serving of desert with self serve coffee or tea.

However, unlike previous year there were fewer participants due to the change of venue as well as the travel distance to the venue. Furthermore, the weather was also a factor with some last minutes no show. On the whole it was a successful, and enjoyable game for all who attended. Although, mother nature did not cooperated for half an hour during the tournament but that did not dampened everyone's spirits.
